Thulasi Amman Pooja

(Thulasi Amman Kanakku) was performed in most houses in Thula month on Sukhlpaksha Dwadasi day as Brinda Lakshmi pooja. This was also clubbed with the Sastha Preethi festival and performed in the temple on Friday to make the festival magnificent and for the good and well being of villagers.

On this day, Lord Ayyappa is taken on procession (Ezhunallippu) with caparisoned elephants accompanied by Sastha Pattu and Nadaswaram in the morning. The main feature of the procession is the rendering of Sastha songs by all the villagers lead by seniors and many others in chorus with utmost devotion, involvement and inspiration. After each Adi the song is played by the melakaras much to the delight and amusement of all the devotees and the Komaram adorned with Koorai, Thandai, kappu and sword dances around in high spirits. In the evening ‘Kazhcha seeveli’ accompanied by caparisoned elephants and Panchavaadyam passes through the main street of the village with great pomp and exuberance. The entire atmosphere gets lighted with high spirits and enthusiasm when the procession returns to the temple. In the evening ‘Mohini alankaram’ at Vishnu nadai is a very beautiful sight and experience.
